Addressing Health Equity and the Social Determinants of Health
Dr. Chip Chambers, CIGNA's Market Medical Executive
Approved for one hour of Kansas, Missouri and SHRM credit
There is growing awareness among providers regarding the impacts that health inequities have on patients – an urgent need to consider the real-life social and environmental challenges facing patients every day. Providers are recognizing the importance of stepping beyond the one-size-fits-all approach to health to improve health outcomes.Up to 80% of a person’s health is tied to behaviors impacted by environmental, economic and social conditions – where they are born, live, work, and play – known as the social determinants of health (SDoH). But only a fraction of health investment is focused on addressing these SDoH, leading to health disparities. Join us on September 16th when Dr. Chip Chambers will discuss these issues.
Dr. Chambers has been Market Medical Executive for CIGNA since December 2021, after serving as National Senior Medical Director, Medical Policy & Innovation for CIGNA from May 2016. Prior to that he served as Chief of Endocrine Surgery, Director of Endocrine Surgery Center at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and a General Surgery Physician at the Surgery Clinic in Nashville, TN.
He is the founder and president of DADA2 Foundation, which is a patient advocacy group supporting research for DADA2 (deficiency of ADA2) and connecting families affected by it.
Dr. Chambers has a BS in Chemistry from Millsaps College, received his M.D. from the University of Mississippi, and did his post graduate training at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.
